March 29 and 30

Please reflect on the second weekend and share what you have learned, connecting these things to the Six Administrator standards shared in your syllabus.

Thank you!

This second weekend was full of information. I had previously worked with Excel so it was interesting to learn a few new tricks. Access was new and I can see its use in the school district. We were thrown a lot of information this weekend and have quite a few assignments to complete. I think it would have helped to spread out the assignments...for example...have the podcast script and conditional formatting due before the second weekend. I know this was probably the goal but I understand time is a problem when working with a large group and different software.

I found the excel workshop extremely beneficial. Manipulating data in a clear concise manner benefits the school administrator and further benefits the faculty when the data is shared. In my district there is never any discussion on ISAT scores or what direction to go.
Microsoft access is a program that appears to be time consuming to set up. Once the data has been collected it would be a useful program both as a tool to assist an administrator as well as the classroom teacher. These programs used in the correct manner would apply to standard three.

The presentation on generations was interesting. I think there is value in understanding why the generations have progressed as they have. This is especially important for the generation Y. The presentator indicated that people in this generation work better in groups. this is important information for an administrator to understand in dealing with them as employees. On a personal note, I appreciated this information in reference to my daughter. I assumed she was unique in her need for constant, instant communication with her friends! On the technology note, I understand how Excel is useful, but I realize how much experience I need in order to feel more comfortable. However, the podcast activity was wonderful and can be used in the classroom in so many ways.

Like Sara, I had previous experience with Excel and found it interesting to learn some new tricks. Especially like the salary schedule. One thing that I think would help is if we were all in the computer lab using the same hardware and operating systems. As far as standards covered, I think we addressed #3 (using Excel), #4 (open source). I'm sure we covered more, but I'm a little brain-drained right now.

This weekend had a lot of useful and purposeful information, but I felt it came at warp speed! Saturday's class was fun. I enjoyed the podcast and can really use this in my classroom. Creating the blog page and Wiki page were very beneficial as well. I worked on my scavenger hunt as well and learned about some great websites! Sunday, I felt really overwhelmed. I do not have access to Access, but I thought it was a great tool. I am glad I learned about Excel, because I really want to use it. It was just a lot of info in a short period of time!

I loved class this weekend. I am especially excited about the blog and plan to try to use it in the classroom as well as create a personal blog for family. I was nervous about excel, but realized that I remember formulas and sorting from my undergraduate classes. I know several people were overwhelmed with the information, but because I am a generation y, I was comfortable with most material. As a future administrator it is important to be aware of all of the technology available. You don't have to necessary be great at all of it, but you need to know it is out there. The other highlight of the weekend was the information provided on Open Source. I personally see some uses of the open source softwares, so it could easily be an option for a school with a limited budget.

Class this weekend was extremely helpful; frustrating, but worthwhile. I agrree with others information was quite quick in delivery. Much like something new may feel to some of our students who have a hard time keeping up.
I have been on the receiving end of one of the Excel charts explained by Dr. Clossen and it was very interesting to see how it could be utilized prior to handing out to staff.
It was great fun creating the podcast!! And actually pretty easy. What a great tool to utilize in class with group projects.

This weekend was full of information. I was glad to be learning all the new and exciting technology, but at the same time experienced frustration due to the problems experienced with internet connections. I feel like these tools being learned are best understood if the learner is able to do the task at the same time that the teacher is giving the instruction. I felt like most of the standards were met in many ways. I really connected this weekend with Standard one that talks about success of all students by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation...for staff professional growth;I feel like excel helps and falls right in line with this standard. It would be very beneficial to insert test scores into this program to help analize data. While many programs were taught, and many of our standards met, we still need more practice to help us become effective and comfortable with all the technology we are learning.

This weekend proved to be just as exciting and valuable as the first. A little bit of information overload for me, but very valuable tools. I especially enjoyed the podcast. Excel, access, wikis, and blogs were a little foreign to me prior to this class, but now I feel I have a pretty good grasp on them. All of the technology tools will be valuable in administration. Standards 3 and 4 were particularly addressed in the technology tools. These tools allow different ways to communicate/respond to others to promote collaboration and success.

I really enjoyed the variety of topics covered the second weekend. I loved making the podcasts and can see how they could be used in the classroom by students. I guess they could be used by an administrator in a similar way to either communicate new ideas to staff or to have the staff themselves research a topic and create a podcast to demonstrate and share their new knowledge.

The presentation on open source software was very useful and interesting. I'm still trying to decide on how I feel about using it. I just heard a story about how Microsoft Office was name the "official standardized software" by some international standardization organization, so I would be concerned about switching to shareware on a wide scale, but it would be great to be able to share this with students and families that might not have access to expensive software.

I LOVE Excel and feel very comfortable using it, but still learned a lot from Dr. Clausen's presentation. There are so many ways to use it, it would be impossible to explain it in one morning, but hopefully everyone will take more time on their own to get to know it because it can be used in so many ways.

I would love to learn more about Access because I'm sure it's just as useful and powerful as Excel, but I'm still not comfortable setting up the tables and queries.

The wikis and blogs seem like a good comunication tool. I'm looking forward to trying to use my blog to communicate and get information from parents and students. We'll see how it works.

The Excel and Access portions of last weekend were excellent! Definitely some useful tools that will address Standard 3 when we all become administrators. Although I felt confident with Excel prior to Sunday, it was a great refresher and spurred me into delving into a few Excel projects I had placed on the back burner. Unfortunately I missed creating the podcast, however, that is a technology that I have used in my classroom so feel fairly confident with it. All this technology has me yearning for more! May need to look into further classes in the field after this class.
